Unika Sound / Practical guide

Planning background sound for a café

Even volume, dining and terrace zones, simple controls: what to consider before selecting café or restaurant speakers.

The goal is a comfortable atmosphere

Background audio should support the venue rather than force guests to raise their voices. One loud speaker is not a substitute for planned coverage: nearby tables can be too loud while distant ones hear little. Speaker count and position depend on room shape, ceiling height and surfaces, not floor area alone.

Divide the venue into useful zones

Dining room, bar and terrace may need different levels. Decide whether zones need independent music or simply separate volume. Outdoor terraces require weather and neighbour considerations. Controls should be accessible to staff and the startup routine easy to understand.

Coordinate installation with the designer

Ceiling speakers need suitable depth and ceiling construction; wall models need locations and aiming. Plan cabling, amplification, ventilation and service access. For an operating venue, installation and scheduling follow a site assessment; concealed options may be limited.

Separate background and event requirements

Microphones, DJs and live performance change power, input and placement requirements. Identify these scenarios before equipment selection so a background system is not expected to perform as a concert system. Bring a floor plan, photographs, ceiling height, zone list and operating hours.
